Position Summary
The Health Technician provides clinical and administrative support to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in delivering high-quality patient care. This role performs patient intake, basic clinical procedures, specimen collection, diagnostic testing, documentation, and patient education while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational policies. The Health Technician plays an essential role in maintaining efficient clinical operations and promoting a positive patient experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, medical history, and chief complaints.
- Assist physicians and nursing staff during examinations and minor procedures.
- Perform basic diagnostic testing such as EKGs, vision screenings, hearing tests, spirometry, and point-of-care laboratory testing, as appropriate.
- Collect blood, urine, and other specimens according to facility protocols.
- Prepare and transport specimens to the laboratory.
- Clean, disinfect, and prepare examination rooms and medical equipment.
- Maintain clinical supplies and ensure equipment is functioning properly.
- Document patient information accurately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Schedule follow-up appointments and coordinate referrals as needed.
- Educate patients on basic healthcare instructions and follow-up care.
- Monitor patients and promptly report changes in condition to licensed healthcare staff.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and quality assurance standards.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a Health Technician, Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, EMT, or related healthcare training program preferred.
- One year of clinical or healthcare experience preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology and clinical procedures.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Allied Health or related field.
- Experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, physician office, or ambulatory care setting.
- Experience using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Certification as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or other related credential.
- Bilingual skills preferred.

Physical Requirements

- Frequently lift or assist patients weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance as needed.
- Manual dexterity to perform clinical procedures and operate medical equipment.
- Ability to push, pull, and transport medical equipment.
- Visual acuity sufficient to monitor patients and perform clinical tasks.

Certifications
