As a Medical Records Technician, you will safeguard the integrity of clinical data so providers can make life-changing decisions without delay. Your work directly supports our mission of putting Veterans first every day.
- Achieve 98%+ coding accuracy on inpatient and outpatient records within 24–48 hours of encounter close, enabling timely billing and quality reporting.
- Process a daily volume of 40–60 records while maintaining complete documentation of diagnoses, procedures, and treatments in the electronic health record.
- Reduce record deficiencies by 20% within the first six months through proactive chart analysis and provider education.
- Ensure 100% HIPAA privacy compliance on all releases of information, with zero reportable breaches.
- Complete monthly quality audits and implement corrective actions that improve HIM department metrics by at least 15%.
- Support Joint Commission and survey readiness by keeping records current, complete, and audit-ready at all times.
Essential Qualifications
- 1+ year of acute-care coding experience using ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT.
- Proven ability to meet productivity and accuracy standards in a high-volume HIM environment.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and federal privacy regulations (HIPAA).
- Experience with electronic health records and abstracting clinical data for quality and billing purposes.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to pass federal background investigation.
